In my childhood, I was a fan of Hong-Kong action films based in ancient China. I provide plots of two 1980s-1990s films with a supernatural twist. A Chinese Ghost Story (1987) is about a young tax collector who falls in love with a female spirit whose soul is bound to a Tree Demon. He seeks the help of a Taoist hunter and both seek to free her from servitude. Lesley Cheung, who played the tax collector, was such a talented and funny actor. This film was so groundbreaking that it sparked a trend of folklore ghost films in the Hong Kong film industry, including two sequels, an animated film, a television series and a 2011 remake.
