Review: Myth Busters (Discovery Channel)

MythBusters is a popular American science TV series that explores the weirdest and most popular urban legends. The show has been active on the Discovery Channel since 2003 (six seasons). The setting is the San Francisco Bay area, although the cast has shot specials in other local and overseas locations. Paranormal themes, such as ghosts and aliens, are not explained because they cannot be tested using the scientific method. You can watch the team debunk and demystify myths before your eyes!

The team members are similar to your modern-day Ghostbusters group: Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara. For very dangerous experiments, Buster, the resident crash dummy, is used as a stand-in for humans. Living animals are never used. At the end of each episode, Hyneman and Savage conclude whether a urban legend is the following: Busted, Plausible or Confirmed.

Some viewers credit the MythbBusters series for influencing their perception of the world, including how to survive instinctly in dangerous situations. The team has a book and DVD for purchase. There is also another DVD on sale about movie myths. I highly recommend this popular television series. If you ever watched Beakman's World or Bill Nye the Science Guy, you should also add this show in your science collection.

Here is a short clip of the sword test from the show. Enjoy!
